US presidential election 2024
Kamala and Trump have a war of words over the hurricane
Hurricane Milton has hit the US state of Florida. So far, 16 people have died in this strong storm. The hurricane is being politicized ahead of the country’s upcoming presidential election. Republican candidate Donald Trump criticized government aid after the storm. And Democratic Party candidate Kamala Harris claims that Trump is lying.
Milton is said to be the fifth strongest hurricane ever to form in the Atlantic Ocean. A couple of weeks ago, another hurricane named ‘Helen’ hit Florida. As a result, Milton brought more disaster to the residents of the state. Experts say Milton could cost insurers up to $10 billion in losses.
President Joe Biden’s administration has announced maximum aid to those affected by Hurricane Milton. However, criticizing it, Trump said last Thursday, the central government did not do what it should have done, especially in the state of North Carolina. The state, which is known as the “doddyulman” in the election, was badly damaged by Hurricane Helen.
But Kamala Harris criticized Trump’s comments on post-hurricane government aid. “It’s sad that we’ve seen in two weeks, from Hurricane Helen to Milton, a lot of people are playing political games,” he said at an event in Las Vegas on Thursday, without mentioning Trump by name.
Kamala leads the survey
Reuters/Ipsos conducted a poll on the popularity of Trump and Kamala ahead of the presidential election on November 5. 46 percent of voters supported Kamala. 43 percent of people who participated in the survey said they support Trump. Earlier, another poll was conducted by Reuters/Ipsos on September 20-23. Even so, Kamala was 6 points ahead of Trump.
The last four-day survey ended last Monday. The participants identified the economy as the country’s biggest problem. About 44 percent said Trump had done better to address cost-of-living issues. On the other hand, 38 percent people supported Kamala on economic issues.
The survey also shed light on the US immigration problem. About 53 percent of people who participated in the survey think that “illegal immigrants are a danger to the public safety of the United States.” On the other hand, 41 percent are against this idea. But a majority (46 percent vs. 45 percent) voted against immigration in a May poll.
